Commitment and Trust

Reading: Leviticus 6:1-7:27 ~ Mark 3:7-30 ~ Psalm 37:1-11 ~ Proverbs 10:3-4

S – Scripture:

Psalm 37:5 NKJV Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

O – Observation:

OYBB: Do you commit everything you do to God? EVERYTHING? Your waking life? Your sleeping life? Your job? Your relationships? Your family? Your finances? Your time? If so, do you trust that God will help you in everything you do in your life?

I also read Blackaby’s devotional today and he talks about “taking up your cross.” Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. (Matthew 16:24) Here’s an excerpt: Your “cross” is God’s will for you, regardless of the cost. Taking up your cross is a choice; it is not beyond your control.

In observation of today’s scripture verse we are to commit “your way” to the Lord – which means whatever we are doing we need to give it up to God, Trust Him – but what does it mean that He will bring “it” to pass? The NLT says, Commit everything you do to the Lord.Trust him, and he will help you. The Amplified Bible says, “Commit your way to the Lord [roll and repose each care of your load on Him]; trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass.” And The Message bible says, “Open up before God, keep nothing back; he’ll do whatever needs to be done.”

A – Application:

I can apply this scripture to my life by looking at the words “commit” and “trust” – Simplified I need to commit everything in my life to Christ and I need to trust that He will take care of everything. I need not do everything on my own and then go to God. I need to go to Him first in all things. Be committed as a Christ follower.

P – Prayer:

Father forgive me for my sins. Help me, my unbelief. Increase my faith in all things. Help me to know and do your will – so that I can “take up my cross” and commit and trust in you. In Jesus name, amen.

Are You the Chosen Few?

Are You the Chosen Few?

Reading: Exodus 15:19-17:7 ~ Matthew 22:1-33 ~ Psalm 27:1-6 ~ Proverbs 6:20-26

S – Scripture:

Matt 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

O – Observation:

Matt 22:1-14 is a parable of the wedding feast – a story of “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding…” however the people didn’t want to go to the king’s party (to busy taking care of their fields and businesses) and those he invited even kidnapped & killed his servants just for inviting them!  The king retaliated and then told his servants to go out and invite everyone they could find. Yet even those who attended were refused if they didn’t have the right wedding attire.

This is applied in the same way in which we (servants) who have accepted Christ as our Savior – share the gospel (many are called) yet our friends, families, strangers, tell us they are too busy or they outright refuse and persecute us as the messengers!

Here’s an excerpt from the One Year Bible Blog which I think gives a good description:

Ask yourself: Am I sometimes “too busy” to accept Jesus’ invitation to be with him? Am I sometimes too focused on my work or my social life or other distractions? Do I get myself so “distracted” that I don’t spend time with Jesus? And in doing this, am I missing out on an amazing spiritual feast? How about you? Do you believe that Jesus is inviting you to spend more time with him? Are you “too busy” to do so? Do you believe that spending time with Jesus will actually be an amazing spiritual feast for your soul? Will you accept Jesus’ invitation to the wedding banquet?

A – Application:

I need to look at how I organize my time and schedule myself with others, commitments, responsibilities – so that I spend my regular devotional time, along with journaling, and blogging. I often times feel that I am too busy for many things – I need to seek God in what and who He wants me to prioritize in my life and also get the agreement from my family as to the goals of my time with the Lord, ministry, family life, life responsibilities, social, etc.

P – Prayer:

I ask the Lord to forgive me for my sins. I seek God first in all things Mt. 6:33. I pray that the Lord would reveal who I am to pray for and what / where He is leading. Father help me to know and do your will with a joyful heart. In Jesus name, amen.
