Surrendering to God

O – Observation:    It’s easy to say that when we give to whatever person, entity, church, organization etc – we feel good. That’s usually a given. But for the most part we don’t give till it hurts. One might say that’s not being a good steward if we gave all that we have.  In another sense if God is asking you to give all that you have so that you are not held by the things of this world, would we be able to give it all up? Our house, car, job, family? That’s a lot to ask for. Jesus wants all of what holds us. He asked it of Moses. He asked it of his disciples. He asked it of the rich man. My question to myself should be what God is asking me to give to him. And what is he asking me to give up, so that nothing hinders me from serving him without excuses or boundaries?

Today’s reading reminds me of the song, “I Surrender All” which I’ll include here. Thanks for visiting and keeping in His Word which binds us and molds us to be the character that He wants of us.

I Surrender All

S – Scripture: Mark 12: 41-43 – Reading: Mark 12 – The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.[j]

43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”

A – Application:

I can apply this scripture to my life by asking the Lord to allow me to not hold on to the things of this world. I know that the Lord will provide for my needs, but do I trust him to provide? I pray that I can trust and obey.

P – Prayer:

Father I ask that you forgive me for all my sins. I ask that I not hold on to the things of the world. I ask that I am able and willing to give everything and every person – surrender to Christ. So that He is in control over all things. In Jesus name, Amen.
