Walking with God. Quiet time with God. In the busy-ness of life we need to make time, because we can. We make time to get up, go to work, spend time with our friends/family, go to the gym, go on vacation – yet so many of us say, “there’s just not enough time in the day to have ‘quiet time’ with God.”
S – Scripture:
Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. ~2 Corinthians 5:14 NLT
Read from: Experiencing God – Unit 2 – Day 3
O – Observation:
Paul wrote in Corinthians that the love of Christ controls us, in the NKJV it says that the ‘love of Christ compels us,’ and in the Amplified Bible it says that, ‘the love of Christ controls, and urges and impels us.’ The love of Christ strongly moves us to love.
A – Application:
In Day 3, Blackaby reminds of the story of Adam and Eve – whom God created for a love relationship with God. When they sinned, they hid from the Lord, when he asked where they were (as if he didn’t already know), God knew that there was something wrong with their relationship.
Are we hiding from God? What would happen if you didn’t talk to your kids, your spouse, your coworkers, for a whole day, let alone, week and months? Some of you might think, ‘hey I wish I could, but they keep talking to me and no one’s listening.’
Maybe we need to relook at how we spend time with God. Are we going to Him, only when we want or need something? Is it a one-way conversation? What is “quiet time?”
Daily we need to spend time, reading his word so that we can hear from the Lord, receive guidance, instruction, inspiration, words of wisdom. When we pray we should start with adoration, how much we love and appreciate the Lord for all that he has done for us. We can then ask for our needs or desires, even though he knows our heart, he still wants to hear from you. Then, we need to sit in quiet. In the still of time, I can hear the Lord most clearly.
I have found that when I have traveled to foreign countries I hear God best. It’s most likely because I don’t speak the language, although I travel with other English speakers, there’s more time to just watch, observe, and listen. God wants to speak to us – please take that time to hear him, take quiet time daily, you’ll receive the peace he speaks about and promises in scripture.
P – Prayer:
Father, I thank you for your love, your grace, your mercy. You are the true and living God. Forgive me when I rush through my devotions and don’t always take the ‘quiet’ part of my devotional time to hear you. Help me to know and do your will with a joyful heart.
You are my all and all. You are my rock and my salvation for which I shall not fear. Thank you for your blessings, for provision, for health. In Jesus name, amen.
